WOMEN SHED UP TO 8 POUNDS A WEEK with this Blood Pressure Balancing Orange Cream Smoothie

Blood Pressure Lowering Sweet Potato Orange Cream Smoothie

in Smoothies

This is one of my favorite breakfast smoothies.  The sweet potatoes do double duty by making the smoothie extra sweet and extra creamy! Thanks to their carotenoids, sweet potatoes stabilize blood sugar and lower insulin resistance (a condition that can lead to diabetes), restoring energy and helping women shed up to eight pounds a week! Plus, their beta-carotene and vitamin C help eliminate the free radicals that contribute to heart disease and colon cancer.

Serves 2

BLEND:

  • 2 small bananas (preferably frozen — I cut my bananas into segments before I freeze them)
  • 1 fresh orange, peeled, seeded and juiced
  • 1 cup milk or soy milk, like Vitasoy
  • 1/4 cup cooked sweet potatoes, smashed with a fork
  • 1/2 cup fat-free vanilla yogurt

Put everything in your blender (I recommend Vita-mix) and blend til smooth.  Yummo and so good for you!  Truly my favorite — you must give this a try and then please, please, please, leave a comment so the whole world will know just how great this is!  Graci!

Here’s why I recommend Vita-Mix …

Vita-Mix & Phytonutrients

If you know me at all, you know there is one kitchen appliance I am passionate about — my Vita-mix blender!  Yes, it’s at the top of my “Couldn’t Live Without” list — and yes, you’re going to see a plug for it on every smoothie recipe I write because using a Vita-mix blender gives your smoothies much more nutritional value than any ordinary blender possibly can!  And because I care about YOUR health!

Here’s the “skinny” — Vita-Mix processing breaks open the cell walls to release maximum nutrition from whole foods, more than you can get any other way.

Vita-mix gives you verything you’d want from a blender and more!  No question about it — the Vita-Mix blender is superior to anything else on the market and well worth the investment!

So this was almost 11 months ago; I wonder if the person lost weight or not?

Hi Steve, this recipe was actually taken from a University study that had proven the results before the study was published in the First for Women magazine from which I got it. I didn’t personally study it, but I can say that it’s a delicious smoothie and I trust the published study. Thanks for visiting AHK.

I just tried this smoothie, it is great! i just threw the orange slices in, i didn’t juice them, so some seeds got blended up making the smoothie have a slight aftertaste, but other then that my new favorite breakfast.

I have been having Dr Oz Smoothie every morning for about a week, the one that was in woman world magazine. It is the best and i can feel the energy from it immediately. only thing different i do is use frozen blue berrys instead of ice, it is the best!!!

Ooooh Cathy… the frozen blueberries would be a nice change… though does the color get kind of funky with the green and blue? Love the extra antioxidants the blueberries would add, so maybe it’s worth a bit of funky color… LOL ;)

This is my favorite smoothie — you cannot believe how wonderful it tastes! I use even more sweet potato than the recipe calls for (1/3 to 1/2 c) so I stay full longer. It tastes like an orange creamsicle or dreamsicle. I made it for my disbelieving friends, and they loved it too. I’m losing weight with smoothies and make this several times a week for breakfast or as a snack when I’m hungry and don’t want to fix food. I don’t usually have a fresh oranage, so I blend everything else and then add 1/2 c to 3/4 cup of orange juice (I like not from concentrate high pulp Simply Orange 100% orange juice) and it makes it super fast to make. This recipe makes 2 glasses. I use my vita-mixer every day and highly recommend it as well.

It’s one of my very favorites too Victoria! I’m glad you like it and thanks for sharing your enthusiasm. I hope your experience will encourage more people to try it! And yeah… ditto on the Vita-mixer! It’s on my “wouldn’t want to live without” appliance list!

How much weight were you losing with the orang smoothies? How many orange smoothies or green drinks do you have a day?
Thank you
Starla

Starla, I started drinking the Orange Cream Smoothie when I still had about 75 pounds to lose. I don’t generally have a specific schedule for how often I drink the Orange Cream or the Green Drink, it just depends on what I seem to be hungry for and what my body is crying out for. I’ve never done a juice fast or anything of the sort, and I can’t ever remember drinking the two on the same day. I just alternate to keep my energy high and body feeling good. Sorry I can’t be more precise, but I’m not a medical professional … just a girl on a mission to get healthy. My best suggestion, try each of them yourself and see how you feel.

There is some research that I read that showed it does help you lose weight. I don’t have the data at my fingertips, but if I find it again, I’ll post the report. So far as how long you drink it, I look at it like everything else… balance. I would presume the test subjects drank it every day for a week to get the reported benefits, but at this stage of my life, I’m not into dieting as much as I’m into healthy eating and balance in all aspects of my life. What I can tell you for sure is this is my favorite breakfast smoothie. It’s just delicious and if the combination of components helps my body release some weight, all the better :) Thanks for stopping by and let me know you results, OK?

Aloha from Hawaii~
i just triedthe orange cream smoothie-it was GREAT! i didn’t expect it to taste good-not that good anyway :o ) this will be my morning smoothie for at least the next 2 weeks as I am making a lifestyle change. I need to get my blood pressure down-I refuse to take those pills with all the side effects. As for the 2 weeks time frame-that is when I go back to see the doctor. I will also be checking out the other things on here-thanks so much for providing all of this. It makes the changes I have to do easier :o )

Hi Starla, I never drink the Orange Smoothie and Dr. Oz’s Green Drink together. Each is it’s own meal or snack. Dr. Oz’s Green Drink is considered 3 to 4 servings. Enjoy and welcome to A Healthy Kitchen. I hope you’ll come back and visit often … and be sure to let me know what you think of these two drinks. I’m confident you’ll love them.

If you make DR Oz green drink and only drink 10oz, what do you di with the other 20oz to save for later? Will it still be good the next day.
So the orange smoothie is one meal like breakfast and the green drink can be s snack?
Thank you
Starla

Hi Starla, I usually share Dr. Oz’s green drink with my roommate. One thing I love about green drinks, in general, is I can use whatever greens I have in my veggie bin, and I can definitely adjust the amounts of what I’m juicing to make the appropriate amount of juice. I have occasionally put some juice in my fridge to drink within a few hours, but I try not to because your juices definitely have the most nutrients immediately after juicing. And yes, I generally drink the Orange Cream Smoothie for breakfast, but occasionally as a mid day snack when I need a sweet treat (it’s truly that delicious)! The Green Drink also fits into my day at any time of the day. In my opinion, you can never have too many greens. Sometimes it’s a meal and sometimes a pick-me-up.

Thanks for your question Criket, but I’m no expert on diabetes and I can’t give you advice on that. You may be able to find out by posting a link to the r ecipe on a diabetes forum.

im making this smoothy tonight and what im wondering is how much of it do u drink in the morning it seems to make alot thanks

Lesli January 28, 2011 at 4:35 pm

Hi Criket, this smoothie serves two so if you’re the only one drinking it, I’d recommend cutting the recipe in half, rather than saving the other half for the next day. The longer it sits, the more nutrients it loses.

I am lactose intolerant and allergic to soy–would it be ok to use rice milk or almond milk ? Which would be the best substitute? I am hypoglycemic and hoping this helps decrease the symptoms! Thank you!

Do you know how many calories is in the orange smoothie? I added 1/2 scoop of protein whey powder to the smoothie and I thought it made it even better. I absolutely loved it. It will be one of my very favorites. Thanks.

Hi Sherry, I’m sorry I no longer calculate the calories/nutrition of recipes because I found it to be very time consuming. When I was calculating the nutritional value of foods, I used Nutrition Data. You can input the recipe and it will tell you just about everything you’d want to know about it. I’m glad you enjoyed the smoothie. It’s one of my favorites!
