The photo above has been extensively passed around recently, and for good reason: its a peek into the rarely-seen world of mechanically separated meat, or Advanced Meat Recovery (AMR).
It’s not strawberry ice cream. It’s not frozen custard either.
It’s chicken, or so the chicken processors want you believe.
Heres the scoop Meat processors discovered they can squeeze a few more percent of profit from chickens, turkeys, pigs, and cows by scraping the bones 100% clean of meat.
This is done by machines, not humans, by passing bones leftover after the initial cutting through a high pressure sieve. The paste you see in this picture is the result.
OMG WHAT PARTS OF THE CHICKEN ARE IN THIS?
Okay, so lets just presume that all it is is chicken, the most disgusting parts of chicken, no doubt, but chicken none the less. Thats the best story the processors can come up with.
But I ask you this, what on earth is in it that makes it hold its form? Why is it so pink, yet when you get it in your McNuggets, it miraculously looks white just like chicken should!
First lets talk about the pink color. This isnt accounted for because they put the dark meat into it. Noooo! Theyve already admitted that theres very little meat left on the bones to start with. So what is it? I cant find a definitive answer on that but Ive read that it could include all the organs (which would make it reddish), then add all the skin and fat, which would account for the gelatinous quality and the pink color. Ive also read that it could include the eyeballs, feet, head, etc. Not sure if thats true, so I dont want to cause any EXTRA alarm there because what we do know of it should be alarming enough!
So how does it become white? Ammonia anyone? White dye? Food coloring?
And how do they change the taste of what must be unacceptably disgusting to our palate? They admit this one its artificial chicken flavor.
Hmmm why would my chicken have to be artificially flavored to taste like chicken? Ummmm because its not the parts of the chicken we are accustomed to eating!
DO THEY USE THIS ICKY PASTE IN ANYTHING BESIDES McNUGGETS & PROCESSED CHICKEN PATTIES?
Indeed they do! The resulting meat paste can turn into any shape or size to become any ingredient in many of America’s favorite mass-produced and processed meat-like foods. With the right food coloring, it is also known to become bologna, hot dogs, salami, pepperoni, Slim Jim-like jerkys, as well as the ever-polarizing chicken nugget.
IS IT SAFE TO EAT?
OK, and last question is it safe to eat? NOOOOOO! OK, apparently the USDA says its safe, but we know the kind of non-food crap they allow our food processors to serve us in the name of food! Gee if there are antibiotics they can pump into it to kill the bacteria, if it has less than xx% feces, rat droppings, hair, and other non-food particles, etc., then it must be safe to eat. Heres the basic theory of the USDA if it looks like food, it is food.
THATS JUST PURE STINKIN THINKIN!
Just because something looks like food, acts like a food product, smells like food, and doesnt kill you immediately upon ingestion DOESNT MAKE IT FOOD!
Food should nourish our bodies providing optimum health and wellness! If this is a criteria youd agree with, I urge you to step away from the Chicken McNuggets and pre-formed chicken patties whether you find them at your favorite fast food restaurant or your local grocery store.
If you dont recognize it as chicken, in whole or in pieces, dont buy it! Dont eat it! And certainly dont feed it to your children!

Food catastrophe doesnt even begin to describe it vomit inducing yes, that about describes it. People at work thought it was yoghurt or snow freeze. One woman turned white when told what it was, and made up of. Not bad for a brown person eh?

What do I think of it? I think its GROSS! I have seen this before in some other documentaries and ever since I cannot bring myself to purchase any kind of processed meat or let my children eat it either.
It frightens me what the USDA deems as safe. It frightens me more that Americans dont want to hear it and choose to bury their heads in the sand. It frightens me more that my husband is one of them.
When I very first saw that picture, I thought it was strawberry ice cream! YIKES
As a bodybuilder, I need to consume massive amounts of protein and I get most of that from meat. After reading this, I may be forced to go with nuts to get my nutritional needs. Thanks for pointing this out to me!
