Being lactose intolerant, the vitamix is an extremely handy tool to have in my kitchen. One of my favorite things to make with it is nut milk. Mostly I make almond milk which is is just as satisfying to me as real milk and much healthier for me.
I love how versatile the vitamix is, there is just so many different things you can do with it. Besides just being a blender, it doubles as a super powerful food processor. The bottom line is that vitamix has yet to disappoint and makes extremely quality products.
I agree with the previous poster about making almond milk. Vitamixers are great for that and smoothies in general. Some fruit and ice and you essentially have a nice little meal.
The only problem with VitaMix is that to get the food broken down you have to heat it to the point where the live enzymes may be killed and the food may be altered in ways that reduce its healthfulness. I still value mine, and use it, but also use a juicer part of the time. I definitely am glad to have it. Mine is OLD–I think 15 years or more, but it still works fine.
Gosh Pete, I’ve never experienced a problem getting the food to break down before it gets heated up. Maybe you need an updated Vita-mix. I’m not sure about that, but I truly have never had the kind of problem you’re describing.
I will like to have the VitaMix but Ican’t afford it at$200, if there a site where I can order a used one? Please let me know. My job has diminished and I make very little money. I would like to find out is there is a smaller version. My husband is retired due to his health problems, we are both Seniors 61 and 66 years old.

Hi Delia, I’m sorry to say I don’t know of a further discount for the purchase of the VitaMix. When ordered using the code I provide, you receive free shipping. You may want to see if you can find a used one on eBay or Craigslist.org. If you have a high speed blender of any kind, you can try Dr. Oz’s Green Drink. I recommend VitaMix because it works so flawlessly EVERY TIME, but that’s not to say it’s the only blender that will work. I’d encourage you to try Dr. Oz’s Green Drink recipe with your current blender and see how it works out. All the fruits and veggies in the recipe are fairly soft, so it should be OK (you may need to blend longer though). Best of health to you and your husband. Every step you take in the right direction is a GOOD STEP!
